ROS – Retired Officers’ Spouses
Formerly ROWW – Retired Officers’ Wives & Widows. The name was changed in the summer of 2021 by a majority group and Board vote.
The Retired Officer Spouses (ROS) group, formerly the Retired Officers Wives & Widows (ROWW), was founded by Sally Shoop in May of 1979. Its purpose is to foster companionship among people of common background & interests, as well as a forum for distributing information of concern to its members. ROS is sponsored by the OSC and has become an established function of most military bases throughout the U.S.
ROS luncheons occur 4 or 5 times per year in months with a 5th Thursday. The busy month of December is the exception to this rule; therefore, we have a January birthday luncheon every year. The social hour begins at 10:45 a.m.; lunch/program begins at 11:30 a.m.
Luncheon location varies from the Wright Patterson Club to local restaurants. Members will be notified of luncheons by evite.
Co-Chairs: Robin Sowder, Debbie Minnich, Evelyn Pelan and Tamara Vanden Bos
This group was designed for the spouses of retired OSC members but all OSC members are welcome! Please contact ros@wrightpattersonosc.org for more information.
The ROS (formerly ROWW) is open to all spouses, but works to meet the needs of those who have lived the military life and are now retired spouses. This group did not meet last year, due to COVID and a lack of leadership, but they did manage to gather in May for a nice luncheon at The Club. Everyone was thrilled to gather and just catch up. There was no program provided as people just needed to gather face-to-face and see each other. This group meets about four or five times a year on the fifth Thursday of the month when appropriate.
